Abstract
982,646. Forced flow steam boilers; heat exchange elements. SULZER BROS Ltd. Jan. 27, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963], No. 3459/64. Headings F4A and F4S. A heat-exchanger especially for steam generation utilizing heat from a nuclear reactor comprises side-by-side heat-exchange elements 7, each containing heating tubes situated within a cylindrical casing, located in a pressure vessel of circular cross-section formed by a cylindrical metal wall 2 and a floor plate 16 situated in a concrete block 1. Each element 7 comprises a number of helically wound tubes 30 arranged to form concentric layers disposed within a cylindrical casing 13 the centre of which is filled by a cylindrical body 12 having a base 14 with wheels 15, which supports the tubes and casing by radial arms 31 and support bars 32 having arcuate cross-sections. The tubes of each element are connected to a feed water inlet tube 11 and a steam outlet tube 10, the tubes 10, 11 from all the elements passing out through the concrete block to a turbine plant. The elements stand on the plate 16, within a guide wall 3 and the spaces between them are covered by cover-plates 17. Hot cooling gas from the reactor passes downwardly through the elements and is withdrawn through the annular space between the walls 2, 3 to radially extending tubes 18 which lead to circulating blowers (not shown). The gas is returned to the reactor through tubes 20 and the space outside the walls 4, 5, 6. The elements may be withdrawn through tube 18 by making an aperture in wall 4 and removing tube 20 then lifting them firstly to a position 41.
