Abstract

1,203,018. Sterilizing liquid containing solid particles. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 11 March, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 12882/69. Heading A2D. Liquid containing suspended solid, discrete particles is sterilised by heating a substantial part of the liquid free of discrete particles to 250‹F. to 330‹F. to sterilise this liquid and raise its temperature above that required for sterilisation, metering the particles into the sterilized liquid and holding the combined sterilised liquid and particle mixture at a temperature in said range for 1 sec. to 5 minutes to allow for sterilisation of the particles by the sterilised liquid. The particles have a maximum linear dimension of about 1¢ inches. A back pressure may be maintained on the sterilised mixture of liquid and discrete particles so as to move the mixture gently through the particle sterilisation step. The sterilisation of sour cream containing chives, and milk containing diced carrots, is exemplified.
