Abstract

543.460. Sterilizing by irradiation. CRONSIOE, D. S., and GRONVALL, A. O. U. June 15, 1940, No. 10437. Convention date, June 15, 1939. [Class 1 (i)] Ultra-violet radiation including wave-lengths of 2300-2500 Šngstr÷m but excluding radiation of the mercury line. 2537 Šngstr÷m is used for sterilizing solid, liquid, or gaseous substances or articles. In the case of milk the irradiation may be followed by the addition of pure cultures of, for example, lactic acid bacteria.
