Abstract

1,202,714. Lighting closed compartments. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 2 Feb., 1968 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 7006/67. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] A lamp unit for illuminating a compartment closed by a lid when the lid is open comprises an elongated, hollow, non-opaque body 12, a bulb holder 18 closing one end of body 12, a slidable switch contact 14 closing the other end of body 12 and electrically connected to the bulb casing, resilient means 15 urging contact 14 to a position to complete a circuit to the bulb and an electrically insulating part 17 which in use is engaged by the lid of the compartment when the lid is shut to move contact 14 to a position in which the circuit to bulb 19 is is broken. As shown spring 15 rests against projections 16 and the circuit between contact 14 and bulb holder 18 is via a conductive strip 22. The electrical circuit is completed from bulb holder 18 through strip 22, contact 14. bezel 13 and panel 11 to earth. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the rear end of spring 15 rests in a cup-shaped part which rests against the bulb holder 18 and the circuit between holder 18 and contact 14 is via the spring 15 and the unit is retained in position in panel 11 by a spring steel fixing clip.
