Abstract

1,202,598. Spray producers. RANSBURG ELECTRO-COATING CORP. 26 Oct., 1967 [26 Oct., 1966], No. 48677/67. Heading B2F. Atomizers for electrostatic spray coating systems comprise an elongated body 12 having a plane face 18 bounded on one side by a discharge edge 19 from which liquid coating material is to be electrostatically atomized and on the opposite side by one wall of an elongated slot 40 through which the liquid coating material can emerge to flow as a thin film over said face to the discharge edge, an elongated feed chamber 31 opening into said slot, a closure 41 for each end of said chamber and slot, at least one of said closures being adjustable longitudinally of the body to establish the effective length of the chamber and slot, and means 33 for conveying liquid coating material into the chamber between the closures. The feed means may comprise an elongated passage 32 extending parallel to the chamber and communicating therewith by a plurality of longitudinally spaced ports 33 each with an associated valve. The closure preferably comprises a cylindrical member slidable in the chamber and having a baffle 44 radially projecting into the slot, and an annular elastic seal which can be compressed into sealing relation with the chamber. Preferably the baffle overlies the sealing ring to prevent distortion thereof into the slot.
