Abstract

1513464 Fluid regulation CONTINENTAL GROUP Inc 14 May 1975 [23 July 1974] 20228/75 Heading G3H [Also in Division B2] An electrostatic powder coating device, e.g. for coating a beer can, comprises a cylindrical housing 11 having an inlet 18 and outlet 20 for powder-air mixture, a tangential inlet 21 for pressurized air for directing the mixture along a circular path to the outlet, and an axial inlet 35 for pressurized air for directing the mixture axially through a further outlet 38. The latter communicates through a Venturi tube 40 with a discharge head 53 of a powder gun 47 located adjacent the article. The powder is electrostatically charged via a conductor 54. Pump 26 supplies pressurized air continuously through valve 28 to powder source 31 and to inlet 21 but flow of the pressurized air to the inlet 35 for creating a discharge at the head 53 can be turned on or off at will by the valve 28. The mixture from outlet 20 is returned to source 31 as shown, this flow being augmented by an exhaust pump (not shown). The latter may be connected to a hood adjacent the article to draw off any surplus powder. The housing includes a pair of plates 12, 13 which may be transparent.
