In a rotary ignition distributer operable by a cam-shaft 12, Fig. 1, and in which the contact breaker assembly 23, 26 is mounted on a plate 18 which is rotatable on a sleeve 19, about the axis of the cam-shaft 12 for ignition timing, the sleeve 19 is located in an aperture (17), Fig. 2 (not shown), of a second plate 14 which is adjustable angularly about a fixed pivot 15 whereby the contact assembly 23, 26 is moved towards or away from the cam-shaft 12 to adjust the contact gap. The contact carrier plate 18 frictionally engages a fixed mounting plate 13 through slippers 20 and is coupled at 28 to a push rod 29 of a vacuum advance unit. The plate 18 is adjusted by screw 32 extending through a hole in the casing and threaded to a lug 31 with a compression spring 33 interposed between the lug 31 and the casing.
