In a contact breaker assembly for mounting internally or externally of a rotary ignition distributer 10, Fig. 1, the movable contact 17 is mounted on a member 14 connected to a cam follower 18, 19 and co-operates with a fixed contact 16 mounted on a support 15 which is rectilinearly slidable and adjusted by a screw mechanism 22, 22b for varying the contact gap. Spring 22c is provided to prevent backlash. A further screw and nut mechanism 21, 21c adjusts the compression on a spring 21b to vary the spring loading on the cam 20.
