Abstract

1,172,532. Ignition distributers. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 10 May, 1967 [13 June, 1966; 14 Feb., 1967], Nos. 26245/66 and 7007/67. Heading H1N. An ignition distributer has an annular plate 13 fixed to the casing 11, a plate 14 pivotally connected to plate 13 at 17, plate 14 having a portion 15 extending through a limiting slot 16 in plate 13 and a post 18 extending through plate 13 and a hole in a triangular, Fig. 1, or C-shaped (Fig. 5) plate 19 to pivotally interconnect plates 14 and 19. The movable contact 43 is pivotally mounted on a post 35 on plate 19, the fixed contact 44 being mounted on a plate 19a carried by plate 19, Fig. 1, or directly on plate 19 (Fig. 5). A vacuum advance unit 76 has an operating rod 47 pivotally connected to plate 19 at 47a (see Fig. 2) so as to rotate plate 19 about post 18 with respect to plate 14 to alter the position of the contact projection 39 with respect to the cam. To adjust the contact gap that occurs between contacts 43, 44 when shaft 12 rotates, the engine is allowed to tick over and a bolt 31 threaded into portion 15 is rotated in a direction to rotate plate 14 about 17, and move plate 19 so that contacts 43, 44 move towards the shaft until the engine stalls. Bolt 31 is then rotated in the opposite direction. to set the contact gap. Due to the connection of rod 47, plate 19 is constrained to linear movement- Contact 43 is connected to a D.C. supply via spring 41, and contact 44 is earthed through plate 19. Plate 19 is connected to casing 11 through a lead (48, Figs. 5, 6) and a connector (49, Figs. 5, 6) connected to post 18.
