The invention relates to a method of utilizing the heat in the exhaust gases of a gas turbine engine in which fuel is burned in the hot exhaust gases and the resulting hot gases are passed to a heat exchange apparatus to pre-heat materials in liquid, vapour or gaseous form which participate directly in the processing of pil and hydrocarbon compounds. In the embodiment shown a gas turbine 1 drives an air compressor 15 and an electric generator 16, the turbine exhaust gases passing through lines 3 to re-heat combustion chambers 2 in each of which gaseous fuel supplied through line 4 is burned. The combustion gases from one chamber 2 are passed through line 6 to a heat exchanger 5 in which raw material is pre-heated. Combustion gases from a second chamber 2 are passed through line 8 to a process apparatus 7. Combustion gases from the third chamber 2 are passed through line 10 into a heat exchanger 9 in which a heating medium is heated - the heating medium is then passed to a process apparatus 11, also to a heater 13 wherein heat is transferred to raw material.
