1349799 Making combustible gas VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ELEKTROTERMICHESKOGO OBORUDOVANIA 18 June 1971 [17 July 1970] 28639/71 Heading C5E A gas generator which simultaneously produces two different protective gases comprises a hermetically sealed container 1 enclosing a retort 4 and one or more burners 2, fuel-air mixtures being supplied at 2, 6. A portion of the hot gases from the burners 2 is passed out at 3 over a catalyst 20, the rest being directed as heating gases through a pipe 9 surrounded by catalyst 5 in the retort 4, from which product gas from the burner 6 leaves at 7. A portion of the gases at 3 is recycled through a cooler 11 and an adjustable valve 12 to one or more of the burners 2, and a valve 17 is controlled in response to variations in the temperature of the catalyst 5. The air fuel volume ratio to the burners 2 is less than 1.
