Abstract
1,196,715. Reactor pressure vessels. H. BENZLER. 18 Oct., 1968, No. 49408/68. Heading G6C. In a high-pressure gas cooled fast breeder nuclear reactor, the pressure vessel is enclosed within a cylindrical container, the intervening space being filled with pressurized CO 2 . A fracture in the reactor pressure vessel produces a fall in reactor coolant pressure which is limited by the intervening space pressure. The pressure vessel, formed of steel, contains the core, a radiation shield, a steam generator, and the circulating fans. A further cylindrical concrete shield surrounds the pressure vessel within the cylindrical container.
