Abstract

1,195,696. Boilers. H. V. SALT. 8 Nov., 1967 [9 Nov., 1966], No. 50117/66. Heading F4A. A back boiler for a firegrate comprises hollow back and side walls 4, 5, extending from top to bottom of the boiler and tapering inwardly towards their top, a hollow front wall 3 joining the side walls and extending down from the top of the boiler a shorter distance than the rear and side walls, the hollow walls providing a continuous water jacket around a flue 2 which tapers towards a top damper-controlled opening, whereby a solid fuel fire can pass under the front wall 3 and bear against the inner faces of the rear and side walls. Additional gas passages 13, 14 may be provided in the rear and side walls. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the side walls are stepped so that part 22 thereof overhangs the firebed.
