Abstract

1,195,409. Tufting machines. ELLISON TUFTING MACHINERY Ltd. 10 Dec., 1968 [29 Dec., 1967], No. 58982/67. Headings D1G and D1K. In a multi-needle tufting machine a gripper 42, 43 rises through the eye of its associated needle 31 to take a coloured yarn from one of the yarn guides 20-24, the gripper is then retracted and the yarn cut by a cutter 27 the needle is then retracted to draw the first leg of the tuft through the fabric after which it reenters the fabric and as the gripper rises to take the next yarn the second leg of the first yarn is pushed into the needle eye to be pulled into the fabric with the first leg of the second tuft. The jaws of the gripper are opened and closed by contact of the arm 45 on a roller 46 on the cutter mechanism. The yarn may extend from the ends of guides 20-24 of their ends may be slotted to allow the gripper to enter. A stripper plate 50 is provided to clear the formed tufts from the guide plate 26.
