Abstract

1438173 Tufting machine EDGAR PICKERING (BLACKBURN) Ltd 26 June 1974 [11 July 1973] 32994/73 Heading D1G A tufting machine with a needle bar 11 bearing two rows 14A, 14B of equally spaced needles, the needles of each row being situated mid way of those in the other row, has means for shogging the needle bar an amount equal to the distance between the needles of one row. The rows are staggered by “ inch. The needle bar 11 has an extension 30 slidably receiving the needle bar vertical push rods 13 and presenting rollers 29 engaging therebetween a rib 28 on a block 27 carried on a shaft 26 axially reciprocable in bearings 26 by a bar 24 having cam followers 23 engaging a shogging cam 22 disposed on the output shaft 21 of a gearbox 19 driven by the tufting machine. Stitches, Figs. 5-7 (not shown) indicate the pattern achieved on the back or non tufted side of the fabric. When shogging occurs after, respectively every one, two or three fabric Shifts between tuft formation. The needles may be supplied with yarns of different colours.
