Abstract

1,195,326. Storage heaters. GOMSTOCK & WESCOTT Inc. 31 July, 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 36499/68. Heading F4U. [Also in Division C1] Alkali metal hydroxide is dehydrated by contacting it in the fused state with an inert gas until the water content is reduced to less than 0.05%, to produce a passivated heat storage composition. This is non-corrosive to ferrous containers, and the composition is suitable for long enclosure in a sealed heat storage vessel. The preferred hydroxide is sodium hydroxide. Further water may be removed by the addition of iron powder to the fused hydroxide.
