Abstract

1,195,167. Change-speed control. ROOTES MOTORS Ltd. 23 May, 1969 [28 May, 1968], No. 25547/68. Heading F2D. Cross-shift and gear establishing movements of a ball-mounted remote control lever 37 of a motor-vehicle floor gearshift assembly are transmitted to a selection finger 27 of a four forward speeds and reverse change-speed gear 10 by a cranked turn-and-slide rod 21 mounted in a separate integral U-shaped channel compartment 16 of a gear-box extension housing 12 in which the gear-box output shaft 14 is journalled. Control rods 28, 29 and 30 are selectively engaged and axially moved by the selection finger 27 for 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th and reverse respectively. The turn-and-slide rod channel compartment 16 and gear-box extension housing 12 may be formed as a single high or low pressure die casting or a gravity die casting, and the compartment 16 closed , by a removable plate (55), Fig. 6 (not shown). Selection of reverse is resisted by a spring-loaded plunger 50 which engages the cranked rod 21 adjacent the gear lever 37.
