Abstract

1,192,592. Xerographic plate. RANK XEROX Ltd. 8 Sept., 1967 [12 Sept., 1966], No. 41087/67. Heading H1K. A xerographic plate comprises a conductive substrate having thereon a layer of a phthalocyanine dispersed in an insulating binder said layer being overlaid with selenium. The substrate may be Al, Cu, Ni, brass, stainless steel, Zn, glass or plastics coated with Al, SnO or In 2 O 3 or paper rendered conductive by the inclusion of chemicals or water. The overcoat of selenium may comprise S+Se or Se+Te alloys, CdSe, CdSe/S, arsenic selenide, tellurium selenide or Se doped with halogen. A list of suitable phthalocyanines are given but those preferred are the X and alpha metalfree forms. The binder may be urea, melaminealdehyde, epoxy, epoxy-phenolic, polyimide, polycarbonate or silicone resins, polyesters or polyvinylcarbazoles. The selenium overlayer may be deposited by vacuum evaporation on to the binder layer which may be partially or wholly cured before deposition of the selenium layer.
