Abstract

1,270,979. Electrophotographic element. KATSURAGAWA DENKI K.K. 19 June, 1969 [27 June, 1968], No. 30986/69. Heading H1K. [Also in Division C7] An electrophotographic element is made by vapour depositing on to a substrate a first photoconductive material of low dark resistance to form a first layer, concurrently vapour depositing upon the first layer the first material and a second photoconductive material having a plurality of charge trap levels to form a second layer and vapour depositing upon the second layer the second material to form a third layer. In a vacuum chamber are located two boats one containing Se 20% Te and the other Se. The alloy is evaporated first on to an electrically conductive substrate heated at 60‹ C. When the deposited layer is 25 Á thick, Se is also evaporated on to the substrate but after a while the source of alloy vapour is gradually shut off and only Se is evaporated. A layer of polycarbonate is provided on the Se surface. Other combinations of materials are CdS+ZnS or CdSe+Se. The layers may be formed in the reverse order.
