Abstract

1,191,351. Pulse generators. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 5 Dec., 1967 [7 Dec., 1966], No. 55249/67. Heading H3T. A pulse generator comprises a thyratron or thyristor 3 connected as shown to terminals of a load 4 and direct current supply 1, 2. As described, capacitor 5 is initially charged with the polarity shown via the load 4 and the path E-B 1 of unijunction transistor 7. When the unijunction transistor 7 becomes non-conductive, capacitor 5 discharges slowly via 4 and 6 until unijunction transistor 7 is again triggered, recharging the capacitor with the polarity shown. The duration of the charging pulses is sufficiently short as to have no effect on load 4. When the thyratron or thyristor 3 is fired by a short pulse applied to its control electrode, the load is connected across the direct current supply, initiating an output pulse. Capacitor 5 is immediately discharged via devices 3 and 9 and subsequently recharged through resistor 6 until unijunction transistor 7 once more becomes triggered when capacitor 5 discharges via the thyristor 3 and path E-B 1 , quenching the thyristor 3 and terminating the output pulse in load 4. The duration of output pulse may be adjusted by variation of resistor 6.
