Abstract

1,033,285. Spark erosion. BETEILIGUNGSUND PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 14, 1963], No. 46395/64. Heading B3V. [Also in Division H3] In a pulse generator for spark erosion equipment, a thyratron or silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) 5 is triggered by pulses from 7 so as to initiate breakdown of erosion gap 6. SCR5 is quenched by triggering SCR8 which discharges capacitor 10 in the reverse direction through SCR5 and recharges capacitor 10 via diode 13 with reversed polarity until SCR8 becomes self-quenched. The next pulse from 7 simultaneously triggers SCR's 5, 9, initiating another pulse across gap 6 and allowing the charge on capacitor 10 to be reversed by inductor 11. In Fig. 1 (not shown) components 8, 10 are connected across SCR5, capacitor 10 recharging via a resistor connected across the gap 6. In Fig. 3 (not shown), SCR9 is replaced by an uncontrolled rectifier and a further inductor (not mutually coupled to inductor 11) is included in series with SCR5. The gap 6 may be operated under water.
