Abstract
1398793 Automatic control of speed INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 2 Nov 1972 [2 Nov 1971] 50543/72 Heading G3R [Also in Division H2] An A.C./D.C. series motor M is connected to an A.C. supply through a triac T1 which receives triggering pulses from trigger diode D 1 when capacitor C 1 has charged to the required level. The back e.m.f. generated by the motor when the triac switches off at the end of a half cycle is used to set the conductive state of transistor T2 and thus, by shunting resistor R3, the resistive component of the negative half cycle charging circuit. During a positive half cycle the capacitor is charged through the circuit including R and D3 and the charging current is thus adjustable. The amplitude of the back e.m.f. used to set transistor T2 is proportional to the motor load current at the moment triac T 1 switches off and so the arrangement provides for automatic control of speed. Preferably a field effect transistor is used.
