Abstract

[Also in Division G3] In the operation of a pulse generator, switches 6, preferably a thyristor and 9 are closed simultaneously, switch 6 discharging a PFN 2 through a load 5, and switch 9 allowing current to pass through a transformer 10 so that a capacitor 7 is charged through the secondary winding and a diode 13 which tends to reverse bias a diode 3 so isolating the PFN and switch 6 from the capacitor 7; when switch 9 is reopened capacitor 7 charges PFN 2 through the diode 3 and the secondary winding of transformer 10 in preparation for the next cycle. Thyristor 6 and switch 9, a transistor, are controlled by a monostable multivibrator 16, 18 a pulse tc the gate of thyristor 6 being differentiated via transistor 25 to provide a triggering voltage spike. The height of the generated pulses is stabilized by sampling the voltage across capacitor 7 via a lead 15, and comparing it in a tran sistor 19 with a reference voltage across a Zener diode 20. The output from transistor 19 controls the length of the pulse from multivibrator 16, 18 and hence the voltage stored in capacitor 7. A capacitor 25a may be inserted so that the stabilizer is sensitive only to long term variations in pulse height. The height may be varied by a variable resistor 21.
