Abstract

1,191,159. Electrostatic printing; stencils. RANK XEROX Ltd. 18 July, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 32866/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] A negative reproduction of a light pattern is formed by placing the surface of a donor sheet 3 in contact with the positive imaged and developed surface of plate 1 and applying a potential to one of layers of the so-formed sandwich of like polarity to particles or that one layer. The plate 1 may be of paper or polyethylene terephthalate carrying a xerographically formed positive image developed with a positively charged non-pigmented toner. The donor sheet 3 is coated with pigmented toner particles 4 negatively charged to a greater potential than the non-pigmented toner. When a negative charge is applied to the lower surface of sheet 3, the particles 4 are repelled towards the surface of plate 1 to produce a negative reproduction 15, Fig. 5. In one example, Example I, a sheet of zinc oxide paper is charged to - 400 volts and imagewise exposed to a positive image and developed by cascading with non-pigmented toner, e.g., polystyrene. A donor sheet of "Mylar" (Trade Mark) carrying pigmented negatively charged toner was placed in contact with the positive image and a negative charge of 600 volts was applied to the donor sheet to form a negative developed image on the zinc oxide paper which was then heat fixed. Instead of fixing, the negatively developed image was transferred to a transparent acetate sheet for use in a display device. Alternatively, the negative image was transferred to a silk screen and then heat fixed for use in printing.
