Abstract

1,190,559. Relief valves. FLEXIAN HYDRAULICS Ltd. 7 July, 1967, No. 31439/67. Heading F2V. A relief valve for a diaphragm pump has a passage between a port 14 connected to the pumping chamber and an exhaust passage 17 normally closed by ring 28 on valve member 27 seated on shoulder 31. A piston extension 24 of the valve member 27 having a sealing ring 30 moves in bore 12 and is subject to the pump outlet pressure. Integral with the valve member 27 is a valve member 32 which cooperates with a seat 9 to control the flow from a pipe 7 to a port 5 connected to the pump inlet. Spring 34 normally biases the two valve members so that valve member 27 is seated while the valve 32 is open. Rise in pump outlet pressure above a predetermined valve opens the valve 27 to relief the pump chamber to atmosphere and simultaneously closes the valve 32 to close the pump inlet. The pump can then continue to operate without damage by taking in and exhausting air through ports 14 and 17. The valve body is provided with two of each port for simultaneous operation on two pumps.
