Exciting.-The exciter of a turbo-alternator or other dynamo-electric machine is mounted above one of the bearings of the main machine and is driven from its shaft through spur or chain gearing, ropes, belts, &c. This arrangement enables cooling-water to be fed to the rotor through the end of the rotor shaft.
