Abstract

[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions effective as androgen biosynthesis inhibitors comprise a 3- oxygenated-17-acylamido-steroids having the formula: or a #<SP>4</SP>-dehydro, #<SP>1</SP>, <SP>4</SP>-bis-dehydro or #<SP>5</SP>-dehydro derivative thereof, where R is acetyl or formyl, and Y is hydroxy or C 1-6 alkanoyloxy in the case of endrostanes and #<SP>5</SP>-androstenes, and keto in the case of #<SP>4</SP>-androstenes and #<SP>1</SP>, 4-androstadienes; in admixture with a solid pharmaceutical carrier, a liquid carrier containing a flavouring agent, a sterile liquid carrier suitable for injection; or an oil-in-water emulsion. The compositions may be administered orally as pills, tablets, capsules or syrups, or parenterally as microcrystalline aqueous suspensions or oil-in-water emulsions.
