1,214,102. Tetrazole derivatives. MERCK & CO. Inc. 13 Jan., 1969 [19 Jan., 1968], No. 1815/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds I (including salts thereof) wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> signify hydrogen or alkyl or taken together signify methylene or ethylidene, X is halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, mercapto, alkylthio, nitro, amino, mono- and di-alkylamino, alkanoylamino, 3-trihalomethyl, alkylsulphonyl, or alkylsulphinyl, and Y is hydrogen, hydroxy, acetoxy, alkoxy, isonitroso, amino, mono- and di-alkylamino or oxo, are obtained by the interaction of a nitrile II (prepared by treating a corresponding amide with a dehydrating agent or by converting substituents Y and X into other substituents Y and X) and an azide; compounds containing various X and Y substituents can be obtained by conventional reactions utilizing compounds containing other suitable X and Y substituents. Pharmaceutical preparations showing antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity and effective in the prevention and inhibition of edema and granuloma tissue formation contain, as active ingredient, compounds I; administration may be orally.
