Abstract
1,188,015. Coated lamp bulbs. GENERAL ELECTRIC AND ENGLISH ELECTRIC COMPANIES, Ltd. 23 Sept., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967], No. 46590/67. Heading B2K. [Also in Division H1] An electric discharge lamp comprises a fused silica envelope having transparent protective coating on the envelope interior consisting of the dioxide of Ti, Zr or Hf-envelope. The coatings may be formed by heating the envelope to 1000 to 1250‹C while exposed to vapours of titanium, zirconium or hafnium esters of the lower aliphatic alcohols which latter are thermally decomposed. Prior to the introduction of the organic compound vapor, the tube may be evacuated, or filled with air or an inert gas. If the tube is not filled with air, subsequent heating of the coated surface to 800‹C in air is necessary to remove deposited carbon.
