Abstract

1,187,430. Stud and socket fastenings. PAINTON & CO. Ltd. 22 Nov., 1968 [22 Aug., 1967; 29 Feb., 1968], Nos. 38692/67 and 9932/68. Heading E2B. A fastener comprises a hollow body 1 with resilient fingers 6 and a pin 2 insertable in the bore of the body with an enlargement each of the corners 18 of which engages in a slot 5 between adjacent fingers and the pin being rotated to engage each corner in a groove on the inner surface of each finger. The internal cross section of the bore 4 is complementary to the triangular cross section of the enlargement. The head 3 of the body has an internal flange 9 which engages in groove 14 in the head 2 of the pin. The head 3 has the external shape of a nut so that the body is easily held while the pin is rotated. Various shapes of the pin and the body are described. The head of the body in one embodiment being square with four extensions two of which are bent at right angles to form two resilient fingers, the remaining two forming the head. In other embodiments the body is triangular or elliptical in internal cross section. To secure sheets with holes spaced apart, the pin has a domed head with a resilient groove to engage one sheet and the body has a flange with a barb to engage the other sheet. The body may be integral with the mounting plate of a component.
