Hopper 7, which receives tobacco from shoot 11 (Fig. 3) via rotating wheels 10 and 9, pivots about 8 (Fig. 1) to discharge the tobacco on to vibrating conveyer 3 and thence to weigh pan 1. When the required weight of tobacco has been received, the hopper 7 pivots anti-clockwise to allow the rest of the charge of material to fall onto endless conveyer 5 which delivers it to and between vertical conveyers 14 which raise and deliver it to channels 12, 13. The hopper then pivots anti-clockwise again to deliver material via vibrating conveyer 4 to weigh pan 2 and when the latter has received the required amount the hopper 7 pivots clockwise to deliver the rest of the charge to endless belt 5. The cycle is then repeated. Pivoting of hopper 7 (Fig. 4).-The hopper 7 is pivoted between positions a and b, in which it discharges to conveyers 3 and 4, by pistons 17-18 governed by valves 19, 20, and is locked in the central position by pistons 15-16.
