Abstract

1381559 Feeding tobacco WILH QUESTER 24 Nov 1972 [25 Jan 1972] 54311/72 Heading A2C [Also in Division B8] In a device for feeding tobacco to a plurality of cigarette machines, including a V-shaped circular channel 3 containing a loose mass of cut tobacco 20 from which batches are fed to storage hoppers .7 for individual cigarette machines, the channel 3 is either rotated or reciprocated about its central axis 13 and is automatically fed with tobacco from a hopper 18 by a conveyer 9, which is rotated about the axis 13, whenever the detected level of tobacco 20 in any part of the channel 3 falls below a pre-set value. A flap controlled opening 6, in the outer circumferential wall 5 of the channel 3, is provided above each of the (e.g. sixteen) storage hoppers 7, to supply tobacco when called for by a particular cigarette machine. During supply of the tobacco to a hopper 7, the continuous rotation of the conveyer 9 may be stopped above the particular hopper 7 to augment the feed from the channel 3.
