Abstract

1,185,828. Reluctance motors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 20 April, 1967 [27 April, 1966], No. 18394/66. Heading H2A. A reluctance rotor consists of circumferential magnetic segments 3 which are mutually isolated from each other by air-gaps 4 along the direct axis, and which carry the direct axis flux between adjacent poles, the bulk of the squirrelcage bar material being concentrated around the quadrature axes 8. As shown, the bars are bunched in the neighbourhood of the quadrature axes, but wider bars or bars which run into each other at the surface, may be used. The segments may extend over 0.75 to 0.95 of the full pole pitch. There is no conducting material in the direct-axis gaps 4.
