Abstract
1,206,112. Electric motors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 6 Oct., 1967 [20 Oct.; 1966], No. 47094/66. Heading H2A. A reluctance rotor has no more flux-barriers than the stator has pole-pairs, and these fluxbarriers extend in a substantially parallel array diametrically across the rotor but do not reach the circumference. Thus, for example, the three flux-barriers 6, 7, 8 provide a rotor suitable for 6-pole operation. Squirrel-cage bars 2 are provided. For pole-changing motors, the number of flux-barriers is made appropriate to the sum of the two pole-numbers. Thus, for 6 and 8 poles, seven barriers are used. But if one pole number is a multiple of the other, fluxbarriers for the higher number only are provided. Any number of pole-numbers may be accommodated. The outer pairs of barriers may be replaced by surface grooves (Fig. 8, not shown).
