Abstract

956,938. Permanent magnet motors. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. March 6, 1962 [March 10, 1961], No. 8531/62. Heading H2A. The permanent magnet outer member 11 of a D.C. torque motor, e.g. for gyros, has a continuous low-reluctance path at its outer periphery to prevent outward flux-leakage. The radially polarized magnets 19 are contained wholly within the low-reluctance core 11 and are immediately adjacent each other to facilitate containment of the flux within the core. As shown, the magnets are of semi-circular shape, but they may be of any shape giving a sinusoidal working flux, e.g. triangular or trapezoidal, or composed of graded groups of bar magnets. The outer member may be stator or rotor.
