Abstract

1,182,494. Electric coils. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE LIAISONS ELECTRIQUES. 4 May, 1967 [4 May, 1966], No. 20755/67. Heading H1P. Electric coils are made by winding a cable on to a former having end flanges, winding a layer of fabric on to each layer of cable, the fabric not having been treated with a thermosetting material and impregnating the coil under vacuum with a thermosetting material. The impregnation may take place with the windings on the former or the former may be dismantled, the coil placed in a container and then impregnated. In the first technique, a casing is fitted over the flanges to give a vacuum-tight chamber which is evacuated through one orifice and the thermosetting material drawn in through a number of orifices. The fabric may be made of synthetic, natural or glass fibre. If the coil is used in a high voltage network, then its outer surface must be covered with fabric layers of high mechanical strength. In the first impregnation technique, this may be achieved by covering the impregnated coil with the fabric layers and impregnating a second time. In the second technique, the outer fabric cover is provided on the coil after removal of the former but before impregnation.
