Abstract

1,182,318. Electrolytic chromium coating. HOESCH A.G. Dec.20, 1967 [Jan. 31, 1967], No.57816/67. Heading C7B. A steel surface is cleaned and pickled, electrolytically coated with Cr and then maintained in air for less than 1 minute at 150 to 300‹ C. For example, strips of sheet steel are electrolytically degreased as cathodes in a 4% alkaline orthosilicate solution at 80‹ C. using 8A/dm<SP>2</SP> for 1 minute, pickled in aqueous HC1 solution, electro-plated in a bath of composition 250 g/1 CrO 3 and 3 g/1 Cr 2 (S0 4 ) 3 at 20‹C. using 30A/dm<SP>2</SP> for 10 secs. and then heated in air at 210‹ C. for 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 secs. respectively. Inductive or resistance heating may be employed especially in continuously operating apparatus. The Specification refers to Specification 939,136.
