Abstract

1,181,665. Spray-producers. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 1 Sept., 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 25932/66. Heading B2F. A sprayer for providing a disc-like spray pattern comprises a cylindrical elongated body 1 provided at one end (not shown) with an inlet communicating with a passage 3 extending to the other end into which is screwed an end cap 4 the head of which is spaced from the body 1 by a cylindrical hollow member 5 having an external annular groove 6. Across this groove 6, at spaced intervals extend two short parallel tubes 7 arranged diametrically opposite to one another and each of which is transversely slotted at 8. The tubes 7 are secured in the member 5 with their ends communicating with annular galleries 9, 10. The end cap 4 has a blind coaxial bore 11 forming a continuation of the passage 3 and also has sets of radial drillings 12, 13 communicating with the galleries 9, 10 respectively. The body 1 has a radial passage (not shown) intermediate to ends communicating with the passage 3 which is supplied with air under pressure whilst the inlet is supplied with a liquid. Sprays of flat fan pattern, of finely divided liquid suspended in air, are ejected from each of the slots 8. The sprayer is suitable for use in a fuel tank to produce, in the space above the fuel, an incombustibly fuel rich mixture, thus reducing the risk of fire.
