Abstract
1424161 Spray producers; aerating liquids ADVANCE PRODUCTS CORP 4 Jan 1974 [15 Jan 1973] 00499/74 Headings B1C and B2F A spray head for discharging lubricants comprises a metallic body 1 having threaded liquid and air inlets L, A respectively, the inlets communicating with drilled passageways 3, 7 terminating adjacent each other in a mixing cavity 31, passageway 3 terminating in a seat 5 sealed by a circular resilient diaphragm 15 abutting a shoulder 13 of mixing cavity 31 and retained around its periphery by a ring 11 screwed into a cylindrical flange 9 of body 1, diaphragm 15 being urged against seat 5 by a piston 17 and a compression spring 27 retained in flange 9 by a cap 21, an outlet pasageway 33 for the liquid/air mixture leading from mixing cavity 31 so that when sufficient air pressure is present in air inlet A the diaphragm 15 is urged away from seat 5 and the mixture flows through passageway 33 to a threaded exit port 35 and thence to a spray nozzle. The area of seat 5 is small compared to that of diaphragm 15. Cap 21 is manually rotatable on flange 9 to define the amount of limited axial movement of piston 17, which determines the air pressure applied to inlet A necessary to lift diaphragm 15 from seat 5. The spray nozzle, Figure 2 (not shown) comprises a swivelly mounted ball having an opening therethrough, one end portion of the opening being frusto conical, and the other end portion having a different shape. Various embodiments of the swivelly mounted balls are described, Figures 4-9 (not shown), wherein the other end portions is either cylindrical, a slot, or comprises a plurality of openings, so that the balls may be exchanged to produce different spray patterns. In another embodiment, Figure 10 (not shown) the spray nozzle comprises a pair of tubes (65) connected by a T-piece to exit port 35. The T-piece may be replaced by a 45 fitting, a 90 fitting, a Y-type fitting or a single tube. In a still further embodiment, Figure 3 (not shown) a pair of identical spray nozzles is mounted on opposite faces of a single body 1, the nozzles having common liquid and air inlets L, A and each nozzle being controlled by a separate mixing cavity and diaphragm assembly.
