Abstract
1,176,809. Refining iron. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. Aug.16, 1967 [Aug. 23, 1966(2)], No. 37701/67. Heading C7D. The decarburizing of iron by a top-blowing process is monitored by collecting the furnace gases in a hood into which air is drawn, and measuring the intensity of the radiation emitted by the combusion of carbon monoxide in the hood, this intensity being related to the rate of decarburization of the iron. The measurement may be made by means fixed at different levels in the hood, or by an adjustable means which is so orientated that the line of measurement intersects the flame in an area of substantially complete combustion.
