Abstract

1,174,950. Straightening. FRIEDRICH KOCKS. 5 July, 1967 [11 July, 1966], No. 30900/67. Heading B3E. Straightening apparatus for hot rolled tubes T includes parallel horizontal hollow rolls 10, at least some of which have indented profiles to permit cooling air to pass between the rolls. Although all the rolls may be indented it is convenient to have a group of plain rolls whose purpose is mainly straightening followed by a group of indented rolls which serve mainly for cooling. Cooling water may be circulated within the hollow bores of at least some of the rolls. The indented rolls may be formed with spaced annular collars or grooves which are staggered relative to adjacent rolls, or with helical collars or grooves. The rolls may be rotated at the same speed or may have progressively increasing peripheral speeds in the direction of feed. This speed control is arranged by driving the individual rolls at increasing speeds and/or by progressively increasing their diameters.
