Abstract
1,026,941. Reeling. SIEMAG SIEGENER MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. Jan. 28, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1963; Aug. 26, 1963], No. 3505/64. Heading B3E. A method of winding rolled sheet material on to a reeling apparatus comprises pre-shaping the leading end portion of the material to a radius of curvature corresponding to that of the reeling mandrel, guiding the leading end to adjacent the mandrel and then moving it radially into contact with the mandrel and pressing it thereagainst so that the mandrel draws the material thereon. The leading portion of a length of rolled material 1 is fed to and pre-shaped to a radius of curvature slightly less than that of the reeling mandrel 6 by press tool dies 2, 3, and the material further advanced and guided and pressed into contact with the mandrel 6 by a roller 5. Subsequently, pressureapplying members 7, 8, which may be endless bands, are advanced and the idler 5 retracted to press the end against the mandrel which winds the sheet thereon, the members 7, 8 being retracted to allow for the growth of the coil. In a modification the pre-shaped portion is formed by movable rollers 9, 10, Fig. 7 (not shown), co-operating with a roller 11, the rollers also acting as tensioning means during reeling and an expanding mandrel is used to improve the frictional engagement with the sheet. Incorrectly formed portions are sensed by photoelectric means or mechanical sensing levers which effect actuation of shears 12, 13 to sever the portion from the sheet. Sets of rollers are advanced by hydraulic cylinder means to press the sheet against the mandrel and may be subsequently retracted during reeling. In a further modification, Fig. 11 (not shown), the sheet is drawn around rollers 24-28, through a pair of adjustable nip feed rollers 28, 29 between hydraulically actuated shaping dies 32, 33, between a fixed guide roller 35 and hydraulically advanced guide rollers 36, 37, the roller 37 being lowered, when a sensing means, e.g. photo-electric cells, senses that the shaped portion of the sheet is above the expandable mandrel, 39, to deflect the sheet end on to the mandrel. Subsequently sets of pressing rollers 52, 53, pivotally connected to slides 48, 49, are advanced by hydraulic cylinder means 44, 45 to press the initial layers against the mandrel which is also expanded before retraction of the rollers. A vertically adjustable and transversely movable carriage 56 is provided for removing the formed reel. The pressing roller sets 52, 53 may be replaced by pairs of side by side rollers 21, 22 having inter-engaging large and small diameters and guide plates 23, Fig. 12.
