Abstract

1,185,487. Rolling. SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN A.B. 14 June, 1967 [16 June, 1966], No. 27502/67. Heading B3M. [Also in Division B5] A method of reducing thick walled metal tubes comprises axially rolling the tube between three co-operating rolls 2 without a mandrel such that the tube is reduced without any appreciable change in wall thickness, each roll having at least three zones, namely a feeding zone 3, a reducing zone 4 and a smoothing and rounding zone 5, 6. The rolling may be hot or cold with a reduction of 5 to 31%. The angle α is preferably 3-5 degrees and the angle # in excess of 40 degrees. The smoothing zone 5 is parallel to the axis of the tube at the point of contact. The zones 5, 6 may be combined into a single zone.
