Abstract

1,174,864. Grinding-wheels. NORTON ABRASIVES Ltd. 7 June, 1968 [9 June, 1967], No. 26760/67. Heading C4V. A grinding-wheel is formed from a mixture of electrically non-conducting abrasive particles, electrically conductive metal particles each of which comprises a core of a first metal bearing a coating of second metal having a greater oxidation or corrosion resistance than the first metal, and a curable binder, said mixture having been moulded and cured. The wheel may contain 10-60% by volume of electrically non-conducting abrasive particles and up to 90% by volume of the electrically conductive metal particles, the centre being a core which may or may not be corrosion or oxidation resistant, together with a curable binder, the metal particles and binder being respectively present in proportion by volume of between 15 and 75% and between 85 and 25% of the combined volume of metal particles and binder. The metal particles may be 100-300 mesh per inch. A specified binder is a phenolic resin and the metal coated particles may be of copper with a coating of silver, gold, or platinum. The abrasive particles may be of aluminium oxide. Paradichlorobenzene may be included in the moulding composition to give the wheel a porous structure.
