Abstract

1,174,804. Projectile fuzes. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES S.A. 2 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966], No. 9867/67. Heading F3A. Projectile nose or base fuze comprising a firing pin 2 held against displacement towards a primer (not shown) by a spirally wound strip 3 releasably connected at one end to an inertia sleeve 6 rotatable about the firing pin. A split ring 5 surrounds the strip. On firing a spinning shell fitted with the fuze, the ring 5 expands, and the strip 3 unwinds under the action of centrifugal force. The sleeve 6 is driven by the unwinding of the strip, and, owing to its angular inertia, brakes the strip. At the end of the unwinding, the strip is released from the sleeve, thus releasing the firing pin and sleeve for displacement.
