Abstract

1,174,129. Rotary drum driers. CHEMIEBAU DR. A. ZIEREN G.m.b.H. & CO. KG. 21 July, 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 33584/67. Heading F4G. [Also in Division F2] Steam heated rotary drum for calcining sodium bicarbonate comprises steam tubes 32 extending longitudinally within the drum 31 from an inlet header 34 at one end thereof, the other ends of the tubes being closed, air being removed from each steam tube by a respective vent tube 35 which opens into its steam tube adjacent the closed end and extends to a collector header 36 provided with valved outlets 37 to atmosphere. Condensate is collected in a header 38 provided with a drain line 39. The headers 34, 36, 38 are formed in a single annular envelope, the drum being inclined so that the headers are at the lower end. The vent tubes may extend within the steam tubes, as shown, or outside the steam tubes. Alternatively, each steam and vent tube pair may comprise a longitudinally partitioned single tube.
