Abstract

1326866 Surface condensers TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 23 March 1972 [5 April 1971] 13626/72 Heading F4S In a surface condenser 10 comprising a rectilinear shell 11 containing two arrays 14, 15 of parallel coolant tubes extending between tube plates 16, 17 and 22, 23, the tube plates, e.g. 22, 23 are bolted to flanges 20, 21 of reinforcement members secured to the end of the shell. Each reinforcement member includes two vertical ribs 26, 27 lying between the vertical portions of the flange 21. Coolant water enters the condenser through headers 24, 25 and leaves through headers 18, 19. Steam from a turbine exhaust is supplied to the condenser through a casing 12 mounted on top of the shell 11 and condensate is discharged from the shell through a drain 13. Inverted U-shaped ducts 30 extending horizontally lengthwise within the shell are provided to separate and remove air and excess uncondensed steam from the shell, the air and excess steam being exhausted from the ducts 30 via communicating exhaust passages 31, 32. The tube arrays are supported by support plates 28 which additionally act as baffles to guide the steam through the shell. Stays 29 are provided to reinforce the shell.
