Abstract

1,173,878. Two-part couplings. BRITISH LIGHTING INDUSTRIES Ltd. 22 July, 1968, No. 34942/68. Heading H2E. Power is supplied to conductors 14, 15 in a distribution track 10 by a connector 30 having resilient contacts 40 which are pushed apart and clamped to conductors 15, 16 when connector 30 is inserted in track 10, by a cam 42 operated by a shaft 48. Cam 42, of plastics, e.g. polyacetal, is biased against a cam seat 43, of similar material, by inclined surfaces of contacts 40, of brass. Inclined surfaces 49 on cam seat 43, with the aid of the above biasing, bias the cam 42 to the clamping (" on ") position, and thus prevent it from being inadvertently turned "off." Flats on the cam surface assist in this. An earthing contact 53 is provided on body 31, which is of rigid plastics, e.g. P.V.C.
