Abstract

1399436 Two-part couplings BENDIX CORP 25 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25224/73 Heading H2E An electrical connector unit comprises a soft elastomeric insulator member 40, with extending through it from rear face 43 to face 42, bores 41 adapted to receive from the rear a contact member 50, having an enlarged section 51 and a contact retention means, integral with insulating body 10, which is mounted against face 43, and having at least one triangular retention member 21, projecting into passages 14 aligned with bores 41, having sides directed as in another embodiment in Fig. 5 and resilient so that it will bend outwards to permit passage of enlarged section 51 and then inwards engaging shoulder 53. In other embodiments the contact means may be non-integral and inserted in said body, or there may be no said body and it is inserted in the insulator member 40 (Fig. 7, not shown), which shows a bore which has a narrower part between front and rear broader parts. The larger rear portion 24 of the retention means of Fig. 5, is a sliding fit in the rear broader part and the narrower portion 22 is inserted in the narrower part. Flange 29 and shoulders 23 co-operate with the shoulders of the narrower part. Slot 28 allows resilient contraction of sleeve 20, which may be of hard rubber-like material, synthetic resin, metal or spring steel. Lug 30 is for locating the angular position of an axially slit tubular, plastic or metal, removal tool.
