A socket part 1, e.g. of phenol resin and a plug part, e.g. of ceramic of an electric connector, which comprise complementary contacts resiliently butting in assembly, are held together in the assembled state by magnet-means provided in the connector. The magnet-means may be housed in either of the socket and plug parts and may comprise a permanent magnet 31 which carries a member 32 of magnetic material on either side, the members 32 protruding out of the socket casing as illustrated. The part 1 or 2 without the magnet-means carries a piece 75 of magnetic material which is attracted and held in the assembled state by the magnetized pieces 32. The magnet-means may alternatively inelude an electromagnet. Female contacts 40 in the socket comprise conductive portions 42 ending in contact pieces and are connected to supply leads 81. Male contacts 60 comprising pins 62 and soldered contact pieces 61 are connected to an electric appliance (not shown) and being urged by springs 70 project out of the plug part 2 which may be mounted on the appliance. A modification (Fig. 6, not shown) uses in the socket part contacts connected to springs which carry current and provide resilient abutment of the contacts with rigid contacts in the plug part. A further modification (Fig. 8, not shown) has the casing of the plug part shaped similarly to that of the socket. A second embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) comprises an electromagnet and has in use the axis of the connector tilted at a small angle to the horizontal so that a slight horizontal pull on the socket disconnects it from the plug.
